    Welcome and Announcements

    Gathering the Family Together

    From God’s Love

Offspring from God’s love outpoured, created for His glory

In holy likeness with Himself and purposed for His story

Blessed to reign, dominion given o’er land and beast man stood

God looked and saw all He’d made, beholding it was good

Born to dwell in paradise, in worship of the Father

Abiding by a single law, one fruit they should not gather

That one law proved far too much and man partook the fruit

And cursed his race to such disgrace that men could not refute

Time before our time began, the Father planned redemption

His Son would come to earth and live and die for man’s transgression

Holy Spirit would indwell men’s hearts and guarantee

Inheritance as God’s own sons for all who would believe

    Call To Worship

    Scripture Reading:                                                                    Psalm 42

1 As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.

2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?

3 My tears have been my food day and night,
while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”

4 These things I remember, as I pour out my soul:
how I would go with the throng
and lead them in procession to the house of God
with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival.

5 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?

Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
    my salvation and my God.

6 My soul is cast down within me; therefore I remember you
from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.

    7 Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls;
all your breakers and your waves have gone over me.

8 By day the LORD commands his steadfast love,
and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.

9 I say to God, my rock: “Why have you forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”

10 As with a deadly wound in my bones, my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”

11 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

    Declaring What We Believe

    Te Deum

    All:

    We praise Thee, O God:

We acknowledge Thee to be the Lord.

All the earth doth worship Thee, the Father everlasting.

    Women & Girls:

To Thee all angels cry aloud; the heavens and all the powers therein.

To Thee cherubim and seraphim continually do cry:

    Men & Boys:

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Sabaoth.

Heaven and earth are full of the majesty of Thy glory.

The glorious company of the apostles praise Thee.

The goodly fellowship of the prophets praise Thee.

    Women & Girls

The noble army of martyrs praise Thee.

The holy Church, throughout all the world, doth acknowledge Thee,

    Solo 1:

    The Father of an infinite majesty;

    Thine adorable, true, and only Son;

Also the Holy Spirit, the Comforter.

    All:

Thou art the King of glory, O Christ.

Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father.

    Solo 2:

When Thou tookest upon Thee to deliver man,

Thou didst humble Thyself to be born of a virgin.

When Thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death,

Thou didst open the kingdom of heaven to all believers.

Thou sittest at the right hand of God, in the glory of the Father.

    All:

We believe that Thou shalt come to be our Judge.

We therefore pray Thee, help Thy servants,

Whom Thou hast redeemed with Thy precious blood.

Make them to be numbered with Thy saints in glory everlasting.

    Solos 1 & 2:

O Lord, save Thy people, and bless Thy heritage.

Govern them, and lift them up forever.

    Men & Boys

    Day by day we magnify Thee;

And we worship Thy name ever, world without end.

    Women & Girls:

Vouchsafe, O Lord, to keep us this day without sin.

    All:

O Lord, have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us.

O Lord, let Thy mercy be upon us, as our trust is in Thee.

    O Lord, in Thee have I trusted;

    Let me never be confounded.

    Amen

    We Respond to God’s Presence

Psalm 91B                                                                  Blue Psalter, pg 562

“Within the Shelter of the Lord”

    I Am Not My Own

    1. The One who made the heavens made my heart and soul,

Before I drew a breath, I was loved and known.

I am His creation, the Maker’s masterpiece,

and all that He designs will be done in me.

    1. My Body is a temple of the Living God,

I’ll worship in this house that His blood has bought.

As I bear His image, oh may I not profane

The holiness I hold in this earthly frame.

Refrain:          I belong to the Lord; oh, I am not my own.

I belong to the Lord; I am not my own.

I will honor Him, for this I know:

I belong to the Lord; I am not my own.

    1. And if He has redeemed me, I am not my own;

The measure of my worth is His love alone.

He declares my standing and He declares my state.

So I will know myself by the name He gave.

    (Repeat Refrain)

    1. I am not my own, and now my heart is free;

Oh, Maker, come and make what You will of me.

There is nothing broken that You cannot repair,

So Lord, I leave my life in your loving care.

I belong to the Lord; oh, I am not my own.

I belong to the Lord; I am not my own.

I will honor Him, for this I know:

I belong to the Lord; I am not my own.

I will honor Him, for this I know:

I belong to the Lord; I am not my own.

    Oh, Be Careful

    1. Oh, be careful little eyes what you see.

Oh, be careful little eyes what you see.

    1. Oh, be careful little ears what you hear.

Oh, be careful little ears what you hear.

For the Father up above is looking down in Love.

Oh, be careful little ears what you hear.

    1. Oh, be careful little mouth what you say.

Oh, be careful little mouth what you say.

For the Father up above is looking down in Love.

Oh, be careful little hands what you do.

Studies in the Book of Job, Part 1

“Do You Have a Religion or a Relationship?”

    Pastor Jim Rose

    Notes

    Introduction:

The Book of Job is fundamentally about the need to belong. It’s about relationships especially in times of suffering.  It contrasts the false claims of religious relationships in Job’s friends to Job’s longing for a covenantal, personal relationship with God.

    Speeches of Job Overview

    1. Eliphaz and Mechanistic Relationships

We live in a _______________________________ world and a relationship with God is the same (4:8)

It is impossible to have a _______________________________ with God (15:7-10)

The only purpose of suffering is ________________________ (22:1-3)

    1. Bildad and Fatalistic Relationships

We can only ___________________ bad things in life by doing more ___________________ (8:3-7)

__________ cannot be altered just because we are ___________ (18:1-4)

    1. Zophar and Impersonal Relationships

If we could have a __________________ encounter with God it would end in more ____________ (11:4-6)

In religion, God is ____________________________ but in a relationship, God is ____________________

    Sharing of the Elements

We invite to the Lord’s Table all those who are baptized disciples of Jesus Christ and are under the authority of Christ and His body, the Church. By eating the bread and drinking the wine with us as a visitor, you are acknowledging to the elders of this local church that you are in covenant with God and an active member of a congregation in which the gospel is faithfully confessed, taught, and believed. You also acknowledge that you are a sinner, without hope except in the sovereign mercy of God, and that you are trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. If you have any doubt about your participation, please speak to the elders before or after the service.
