Father, We have Sinned
1. Father, we have sinned in word, and deed, and thought;
Through ignorance, through weakness, through deliberate fault.

We’ve sinned against our neighbors and against You, Lord.

Yet we are truly sorry, and we turn to You once more.
1. Father of the nations, You who bless the poor—
We’re servants of the endless want and strive for more.

We’ve made our greed a virtue, while the children starve;

Come change our joy to sorrow, till our lives reflect Your heart.

Scripture Reading:                                                               Joel 2:11-13

¹¹ The LORD utters his voice before his army,
for his camp is exceedingly great;
he who executes his word is powerful.

For the day of the LORD is great and very awesome;
who can endure it?

¹² “Yet even now,” declares the LORD,
“return to me with all your heart,
with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;

¹³    and rend your hearts and not your garments.”

Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love;
and he relents over disaster.

Prayer of Invocation

Declaring What We Believe:

Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart

Give thanks with a grateful heart; Give thanks to the Holy One;

Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son.          (Repeat)

And now let the weak say, “I am strong;” Let the poor say, “I am rich,”

Because of what the Lord has done for us.                              (Repeat)

Come quickly, Lord, and make our hearts a worthy dwelling place,

And in the face of our distress, find reason to rejoice.

Grant us the wisdom to discern through faith who we should be—

A fallen race, restored through grace, a captive world set free

Fear Not, Rejoice and Be Glad

the Lord has done a great thing,

has poured out his Spirit on all who live,

The fig tree is budding, the vine bearing fruit,

We invite to the Lord’s Table all those who are baptized disciples of Jesus Christ and are under the authority of Christ and His body, the Church. By eating the bread and drinking the wine with us as a visitor, you are acknowledging to the elders of this local church that you are in covenant with God and an active member of a congregation in which the gospel is faithfully confessed, taught, and believed. You also acknowledge that you are a sinner, without hope except in the sovereign mercy of God, and that you are trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. If you have any doubt about your participation, please speak to the elders before or after the service.
