    Call To Worship

    Scripture Reading:                                             I Corinthians 15:50-58

50 I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.

54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.”

55 “O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

    Prayer of Invocation

    Psalm 11 A                                                                   Blue Psalter, pg 54

    O Lord, Be Our Refuge

    1. O Lord, be our refuge, when evils assail.

Your justice is sure, and your strength will prevail,

Yet wicked ones rise and the good are laid low.

Your mercy reveal, and your righteousness show.

    1. O God, send your fire, come to judge humankind,

Our evil consume and our virtue refine.

Then crowns of oppression will fall to the dust,

And saints will delight in the reign of the just.

    1. How firm a foundation we find in God’s Word!

We fashion our lives in the way of the Lord.

When all else gives way, God’s salvation remains,

And even in death, God’s great glory sustains.

    Declaring What We Believe:

    The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,

begotten from the Father before all ages,

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father.

Through him all things were made.

    For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven;

he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,

    and was made man.

    He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;

    he suffered and was buried.

The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.

He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead.

    His kingdom will never end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life.

He proceeds from the Father and the Son,

and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.

    He spoke through the prophets.

We believe in one holy universal and apostolic church.

We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,

and to life in the world to come.

    Amen.

    We Respond to God’s Presence

    Behold Our God

Verse 1:           Who has held the oceans in His hands?

Who has numbered every grain of sand?

Kings and nations tremble at His voice

    All creation rises to rejoice

Chorus:           Behold our God seated on His throne

    Come let us adore Him

Behold our King nothing can compare

    Come let us adore Him!

Verse 2:           Who has given counsel to the Lord?

Who can question any of His Words?

Who can teach the One who knows all things?

Who can fathom all His wondrous deeds?

    Repeat Chorus

Verse 3:           Who has felt the nails upon His hands

Bearing all the guilt of sinful man?

God eternal humbled to the grave

Jesus, Savior risen now to reign!

    Repeat Chorus

With the power of His promise in their hearts

Of a holy city built by God's own hand

A place where peace and justice reign

Refrain:     We will stand as children of the promise

Till the race is finished and the work is done

We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

    Sermon Hymn:

    Psalm 11:1-7

Grant me understanding, that I may live.

1 In the Lord I take refuge; *

    how can you say to me, “Flee like a bird to the mountains;

2 For look, the wicked bend the bow, they have fitted their arrow

    to the string, *

to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart.

Grant me understanding, that I may live.

3 If the foundations are destroyed, *

    what can the righteous do?”

4 The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven. *

His eyes behold, his gaze examines humankind.

Grant me understanding, that I may live.

5 The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked, *

and his soul hates the lover of violence.

6 On the wicked he will rain coals of fire and sulfur; *

a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.

7 For the Lord is righteous: he loves righteous deeds; *

the upright shall behold his face.

Grant me understanding, that I may live.

O God, Our Help in Ages Past

    1. Our God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come,

Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home.

    1. Under the shadow of Thy throne Thy saints have dwelt secure;

    1. Before the hills in order stood, Or earth received her frame,

From everlasting Thou art God, To endless years the same.

    1. A thousand ages in Thy sight Are like an evening gone;

Short as the watch that ends the night Before the rising sun.

Be Thou our guard while troubles last, And our eternal home.
