Psalm 51 D Blue Psalter, pg 328
Have Mercy Upon Me, O God
Have mercy upon me, O God,
according to your loving kindness,
according to your tender mercy.
Blot out my transgressions
and wash me thoroughly.
O cleanse me from my sin.
I hate my transgressions, O God,
and I repent my sins before you.
Against you only have I sinned
and done what is evil
within your sight, O God.
Wash me and make me clean.
For I have rebelled from my birth;
My very bones have gone against you.
O teach me all your truth in secret
And purge me with hyssop;
And then I shall be clean.
O fill me with your joy.
Create in me now a clean heart;
Renew your Spirit in me wholly.
O cast me not away to darkness
And take not your Spirit
from me, O Blessed One.
O Lord, restore my soul.
Open now my lips with praise
And let my mouth show forth your greatness.
Do not despise my broken spirit;
Have mercy upon me,
O God of hosts, I cry.
Cleanse me and make me whole.

Our Help Is in the Name of the Lord
1 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side—
let Israel now say—2 if it had not been the Lord who was on our side
when people rose up against us,3 then they would have swallowed us up alive,
when their anger was kindled against us;4 then the flood would have swept us away,
the torrent would have gone over us;5 then over us would have gone
the raging waters.6 Blessed be the Lord,
who has not given us as prey to their teeth!7 We have escaped like a bird
from the snare of the fowlers;
the snare is broken, and we have escaped!8 Our help is in the name of the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.Prayer of Invocation
Declaring What We Believe:
The General Confession (1662 Book of Common Prayer)
Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Maker of all things, Judge of all men:
We acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness,
which we, from time to time, most grievously have committed,
by thought, word and deed, against thy Divine Majesty,
provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us.
We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings;
the remembrance of them is grievous unto us;
the burden of them is intolerable.
Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father;
for thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ's sake, Forgive us all that is past;
and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee
in newness of life, To the honour and glory of thy name;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
We Respond to God’s Presence
Depth of Mercy
- Depth of mercy! Can there be mercy reaching even me?
God, the just, his wrath forbears, me the chief of sinners spares.
So many times my heart has strayed from his kind and perfect ways,
Making clear my desperate need for his blood poured out for me.
- Give me grace, Lord, let me own all the wrongs that I have done.
Let me now my sins deplore, look to you and sin no more.
There, for me, the Savior stands, holding forth his wounded hands,
Scars which ever cry for me; once condemned but now set free.

Nothing But the Blood of Jesus
What can wash away my Sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
O! precious is the flow That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
For my pardon this I see – Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
For my cleansing this my plea – Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
O! precious is the flow That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Nothing can for sin atone – Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Naught of good that I have done – Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
O! precious is the flow That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
This is all my hope and peace – Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness – Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
O! precious is the flow That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Christ Our Hope in Life and Death
What is our hope in life and death?
Christ alone, Christ alone.
What is our only confidence?
That our souls to Him belong.
Who holds our days within His hand?
What comes, apart from His command?
And what will keep us to the end?
The love of Christ, in which we stand.
Refrain: O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal.
O sing hallelujah! Now and ever, we confess
Christ our hope in life and death.
What truth can calm the troubled soul?
God is good, God is good.
Where is His grace and goodness known?
In our great Redeemer’s blood.
Who holds our faith when fears arise?
Who stands above the stormy trial?
Who sends the waves that bring us nigh unto the shore?
The rock of Christ!
Refrain: O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal.
O sing hallelujah! Now and ever, we confess
Christ our hope in life and death.
Unto the grave, what shall we sing?
“Christ, He lives; Christ, He lives!”
And what reward will heaven bring?
Everlasting life with Him.
There we will rise to meet the Lord,
Then sin and death will be destroyed,
And we will feast in endless joy,
When Christ is ours forevermore.
Refrain: O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal.
O sing hallelujah! Now and ever, we confess
Christ our hope in life and death.

Grant me understanding, that I may live.

Magnificent, Marvelous, Matchless Love
1 Magnificent, marvelous, matchless love;
too vast and astounding to tell.
Forever existing in worlds above,
now offered and given to all.
Oh, fountain of beauty eternal;
the Father, the Spirit, the Son.
Sufficient and endlessly generous:
Magnificent, marvelous, matchless love.
2 Creation is brimming with thankfulness,
the mountains, exultant they stand;
The seasons rejoice in Your faithfulness,
all life is sustained by Your hand.
You crown every meadow with color;
You paint every shade in the sky;
Each day the dawn wakes as an encore of
Magnificent, marvelous, matchless love.
Refrain: How great, how sure His love endures forevermore.
Magnificent, marvelous, matchless love.
3 What grace, that you entered our brokenness;
You came in the fullness of time.
How far we had fallen from righteousness,
but not from the mercies of Christ.
Your cross is our door to redemption;
Your death is our fullness of life;
That day, how forgiveness flowed as a flood:
Magnificent, marvelous, matchless love.
Refrain: How great, how sure His love endures forevermore.
Magnificent, marvelous, matchless love.
Bridge: United in your resurrection, You lift us to infinite heights.
Could anything sever or take us from
magnificent, marvelous, matchless love.
Refrain: How great, how sure; His love endures forevermore.
Magnificent, marvelous, matchless love. (Repeat Refrain)
