Call To Worship
Scripture Reading: Psalm 100
1 Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Serve the Lord with gladness,
Come before him, singing for joy.3 Know that he, the Lord is God.
He made us, we belong to him,
We are his people, the sheep of his flock.4 Go within his gates, giving thanks.
Enter his courts with songs of praise.
Give thanks to him and bless his name.5 Indeed, how good is the Lord,
eternal his merciful love.
He is faithful from age to age.Prayer of Invocation
Declaring What We Believe
The Nicene Creed
All:
We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
Men & Boys:
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
begotten from the Father before all ages,
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father.
Women & Girls
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven;
he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,
and was made man.
Jubilee Singers
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered and was buried.
Women & Girls:
The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.
He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
Men & Boys:
He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead.
His kingdom will never end.
All:
And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life.
He proceeds from the Father and the Son,
and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.
He spoke through the prophets.
We believe in one holy universal and apostolic church.
We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,
and to life in the world to come.
Amen.
We Respond to God’s Presence
Psalm 63B Blue Psalter, pg 389
“O God, You Are My God Alone”
Psalm 29
(This is a psalm of praise of the power of God displayed in the storm. But the strength is of a hand as powerful to calm as it is to move – a strength man can trust.)
Congregational Refrain:
“Glory to God! Glory to God!” Sing forever “Glory to God!”
Solo voices:
Verse 1: All on earth and all in heaven, raise to God a song on high.
Strength unmeasured, love unbounded, God alone we glorify.
Congregational Refrain:
“Glory to God! Glory to God!” Sing forever “Glory to God!”
Solo voices: (spoken)
Verse 2: The voice of the Lord resounds across the waters;
the voice of the Lord thunders over the mighty sea.
Verse 3: The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
Verse 4: The voice of the Lord breaks the cedar trees:
the voice of the Lord splinters the trees of Lebanon.
Verse 5: The voice of the Lord strikes like lightning;
the voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness.
Verse 6: The voice of the Lord causes the oaks to whirl;
the voice of the Lord strips the forest bare.
Congregational Refrain:
“Glory to God! Glory to God!” Sing forever “Glory to God!”
Solo voices:
Verse 7: God of the waters, God of thunder,
God’s own might can make them cease.
God’s own voice which tumult beckons
in a gentler breath speaks peace.
Congregational Refrain:
“Glory to God! Glory to God!” Sing forever “Glory to God!”

Today’s Message
“Dead to Sin – Alive to God”
Romans 6
Scott Hammersley
Notes
Theology:
- Grace is not an excuse to sin
- Christ’s death broke sin’s power over us
- The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is now at work in us
- Through this power within us we can now “put on Christ”
- Our priorities in life have changed
Application:
- Meditate on the fact that you are dead to sin
- Don’t just not sin, do righteousness
- Love God more => greater obedience, less sin
Practice:
- Realize the truth that you are dead to sin and alive to God
- Learn to hate your sin
- Feed the Holy Spirit with regular intake of the word of God
- Build on your love for God
- Be proactive
- Don’t give up when you fail
