    Call To Worship

    Scripture Reading:                                                    Colossians 1:12-18

    Jesus: Image of the Invisible God

    Give thanks to the Father,

    who has enabled you to share in

    the inheritance of the saints in the light.

    He has rescued us from the power of darkness

          and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son,

          in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

    He is the image of the invisible God,

    The firstborn of all creation;

    for in him all things in heaven and on earth were created,

    things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions

    or rulers or powers

    -- all things have been created through him and for him.

    He himself is before all things,

    and in him all things hold together.

    He is the head of the body,

    the church;

    He is the beginning,

    The firstborn for the dead,

    so that he might come to have first place in everything.

    Prayer of Invocation

    Declaring What We Believe

    The Nicene Creed

    We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

    And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,

    begotten from the Father before all ages,

    God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

    begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father.

    Through him all things were made.

    For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven;

    he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,

    and was made man.

    He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;

    he suffered and was buried.

    The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.

    He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

    He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead.

    His kingdom will never end.

    And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life.

    He proceeds from the Father and the Son,

    and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.

    He spoke through the prophets.

    We believe in one holy universal and apostolic church.

    We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

    We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,

    and to life in the world to come.

    Amen.

    We Respond to God’s Presence

    The First Place

    (Colossians 1:15-20)

    Verse 1:

    Jesus, the prefect picture of the unseen God.

    Maker of things we cannot comprehend.

    Wisdom, the earth displays your strength and beauty.

    Sovereign, yes, every throne knows you are God.

    Refrain:

    Every inch of this universe belongs to you, O Christ.

    For through you and for you it was made.

    Your creation endures by the order of your hand.

    So, you must have in all things the first place.

    Verse 2:

    Victor, over sin and death you triumphed.

    First-born, you’ve shown us life beyond the grave.

    Bridegroom, we long for you in expectation.

    Jesus, your church rejoices to proclaim.

    Repeat Refrain

    Press On

    1. Where two or three are gathered in the name of the Lord,

    He is here, He is here in our midst.

    And we will sing together, be renewed by the Word.

    When we part, may we go in His peace.

    Chorus:   Press on, all you saints, press on till the end.

    Christ with us, ever with us until He comes again.

    Press on, all you saints, run and run to win!

    Christ with us, ever with us until He comes again.

    1. Now let the Word be scattered like the seed on the soil;

    Day by day, watch it grow in His care.

    And may you be a shelter as you reach to the lost,

    Glad in hope, calm in pain, true in prayer.

    Chorus:   Press on, all you saints, press on till the end.

    Christ with us, ever with us until He comes again.

    Press on, all you saints, run and run to win!

    Christ with us, ever with us until He comes again.

    1. And may He find us waiting with our lamps burning still;

    Keeping watch through the night till He comes.

    For soon it will be morning and the sun will appear;

    Christ who brought us this far brings us home.

    Chorus:   Press on, all you saints, press on till the end.

    Christ with us, ever with us until He comes again.

    Press on, all you saints, run and run to win!

    Christ with us, ever with us---until He comes again.

    Oh, until He comes again.

  • Christ Our Hope in Life and Death

    What is our hope in life and death?

    Christ alone, Christ alone.

    What is our only confidence?

    That our souls to Him belong.

    Who holds our days within His hand?

    What comes, apart from His command?

    And what will keep us to the end?

    The love of Christ, in which we stand.

    Refrain:     O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal.

    O sing hallelujah! Now and ever, we confess

    Christ our hope in life and death.

    What truth can calm the troubled soul?

    God is good, God is good.

    Where is His grace and goodness known?

    In our great Redeemer’s blood.

    Who holds our faith when fears arise?

    Who stands above the stormy trial?

    Who sends the waves that bring us nigh unto the shore?

    The rock of Christ!

    Refrain:     O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal.

    O sing hallelujah! Now and ever, we confess

    Christ our hope in life and death.

    Unto the grave, what shall we sing?

    “Christ, He lives; Christ, He lives!”

    And what reward will heaven bring?

    Everlasting life with Him.

    There we will rise to meet the Lord,

    Then sin and death will be destroyed,

    And we will feast in endless joy,

    When Christ is ours forevermore.

    Refrain:     O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal.

    O sing hallelujah! Now and ever, we confess

    Christ our hope in life and death.

    Now and ever, we confess

    Christ our hope in life and death.

    Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart

    Give thanks with a grateful heart; Give thanks to the Holy One;

    Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son.          (Repeat)

    And now let the weak say, “I am strong;” Let the poor say, “I am rich,”

    Because of what the Lord has done for us.                              (Repeat)

    Give thanks!

    Sharing of the Elements

    We invite to the Lord’s Table all those who are baptized disciples of Jesus Christ and are under the authority of Christ and His body, the Church. By eating the bread and drinking the wine with us as a visitor, you are acknowledging to the elders of this local church that you are in covenant with God and an active member of a congregation in which the gospel is faithfully confessed, taught, and believed. You also acknowledge that you are a sinner, without hope except in the sovereign mercy of God, and that you are trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. If you have any doubt about your participation, please speak to the elders before or after the service.

    A Hymn of Glory Let Us Sing

    1. A hymn of glory let us sing! New hymns throughout the world shall ring;

    Alleluia! Alleluia!

    Christ, by a road before untrod, ascends unto the throne of God.

    Alleluia! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

    1. The holy apostolic band upon the Mount of Olives stands.

    Alleluia! Alleluia!

    And with his faithful followers see their Lord ascend in majesty.

    Alleluia! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

    1. O Lord, our homeward pathway bends that our unwearied hearts ascend.

    Alleluia! Alleluia!

    Where, seated on your Father’s throne,

    you reign as King of kings alone.

    Alleluia! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

    1. O risen Christ, ascended Lord, all praise to you let earth accord;

    Alleluia! Alleluia!

    You are, while endless ages run, with Father and with Spirit one.

    Alleluia! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
