Welcome and Announcements
Gathering the Family Together
Psalm 122 A Blue Psalter, pg. 807
Rejoice, Rejoice, Come Sing with Me
Rejoice, rejoice, come sing with me: “This is the house of God!”
The temple gates swing wide and free—this is the house of God!
For every tribe and every race this is the house of God!
God calls us to this holy place—this is the house of God!
In market square and city street we seek the peace of God.
Before the ruler’s judgment seat, we seek the peace of God.
In joyful song and whispered prayer we seek the peace of God.
God’s city can be anywhere we seek the peace of God.

Call To Worship
Scripture Reading: Exodus 19:16-20
Israel at Mount Sinai
16 On the morning of the third day there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud on the mountain and a very loud trumpet blast, so that all the people in the camp trembled.
17 Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they took their stand at the foot of the mountain.
18 Now Mount Sinai was wrapped in smoke because the Lord had descended on it in fire. The smoke of it went up like the smoke of a kiln, and the whole mountain trembled greatly.
19 And as the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him in thunder.
20 The Lord came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain. And the Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.

Declaring What We Believe
The Nicene Creed
All:
We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
Men & Boys:
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
begotten from the Father before all ages,
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father.
Women & Girls
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven;
he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,
and was made man.
Jubilee Singers
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered and was buried.
Women & Girls:
The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.
He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
Men & Boys:
He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead.
His kingdom will never end.
All:
And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life.
He proceeds from the Father and the Son,
and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.
He spoke through the prophets.
We believe in one holy universal and apostolic church.
We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,
and to life in the world to come.
Amen.
We Respond to God’s Presence
The City Is Alive, O God
Verse 1
The city is alive, O God, with sound of hustling feet,
With rapid change and flashing lights that pulse through every street;
But oft there’s inhumanity behind the bright façade,
And throngs with empty, hungering hearts cry out for help, O God.
Verse 2
Is it your will, O loving God, that races live in strife,
That loneliness and greed and hate should mark a city’s life?
Do you desire one person’s wealth to keep another poor?
Must crime and slums and lust abound? O Lord, is there no cure?
Verse 3
In Galilee the people heard your servant Christ declare
Through healing touch, through word and cross,
the good news of your care.
He said your heart touched every heart that longed for peace and right,
That those bowed down by burdens borne could find your life, your light.
Verse 4
O God, inspire your church today to take Christ’s servant role,
To love the world, to hear its claims to sense its yearning soul,
To live within the marketplace, to serve both weak and strong,
To lose itself, to share its dream, to give the world its song.

Jesus Heard with Deep Compassion
Verse 1
Jesus heard with deep compassion pleas for healing, cries of pain;
Cured the lame and cleansed the leper, gave the blind their sight again.
At his voice, tormenting spirits fled a madman’s tortured mind;
Clothed and healed, he went rejoicing, home and family to find.
Verse 2
Jesus touched the lives of outcasts, weak or sinful, scorned or poor;
Gave them self-respect and courage, trust and faith and hope secure.
Truly hearing, truly seeing deep within each troubled soul,
Jesus healed their wounded spirits,
sent them forth with lives made whole.
Verse 3
Jesus, Lord, our true example, you have shown how we must live.
Teach us how to share with others everything we have to give.
Let our days be spent in service; bring us by your grace to know
Healing is the church’s calling, and the path that we must go.

Christ, We Climb with You the Mountain
Verse 1
Christ, we climb with you the mountain where in solitude you pray.
There your garments, white and glistening, shine more brightly than the day.
Face aglow with God’s own glory, you with ancient prophets talk,
Taking counsel for the journey toward the cross you now must walk.
Verse 2
Christ, stay with us on the mountain, for our hearts beat fast with fear
While a mighty voice that, thundering, brings God’s majesty too near:
“Know this man who stands before you is the Christ, My Son, my Own!
Listen, when you hear him call you, ‘Follow me, and me alone!’”
Verse 3
Jesus, send us to the valley where the road through suffering leads.
There we meet your anguished people; there your world from violence bleeds.
Give us courage, when we falter, not to shrink from pain or loss.
Jesus, grant us, as we follow, strength to bear with you the cross.
Verse 4
Christ, transfigured on the mountain, Christ, who walked the earth to save!
Christ, the Son of God in glory, Christ, who took the form of slave!
Help the church, your living body, share with you love’s cost and pain;
Till the world, restored, transfigured, shines with God’s own light again!

Sharing of the Elements
We invite to the Lord’s Table all those who are baptized disciples of Jesus Christ and are under the authority of Christ and His body, the Church. By eating the bread and drinking the wine with us as a visitor, you are acknowledging to the elders of this local church that you are in covenant with God and an active member of a congregation in which the gospel is faithfully confessed, taught, and believed. You also acknowledge that you are a sinner, without hope except in the sovereign mercy of God, and that you are trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. If you have any doubt about your participation, please speak to the elders before or after the service.

Psalm 145G Blue Psalter, pg. 952
We Will Extol You, God and King
- We will extol you, God and King, and bless your holy name.
Day after day we’ll sing your praise, forever and forever.
Chorus: One generation will call to the next:
“Our God is good and his hand is strong!”
All of the world sings his marvelous acts
And our voice will join with theirs in the song.
- Great is the Lord! In all his ways he’s greatly to be praised.
Were we to search for endless days, his greatness none could fathom.
(repeat chorus)
- We contemplate the splendor of the world your hand has made.
Far greater still the majesty we see in the Creator!
(repeat chorus)
- Now may your name be sung in every tongue in every place.
Singing the fame of your great love in ev’ry generation.
(repeat chorus)
