Gathering the Family Together
Psalm 122A Blue Psalter, pg 807
Rejoice, Rejoice, Come Sing with Me
Rejoice, rejoice, come sing with me: “This is the house of God!”
The temple gates swing wide and free—this is the house of God!
For every tribe and every race this is the house of God!
God calls us to this holy place—this is the house of God!
In market square and city street we seek the peace of God.
Before the ruler’s judgment seat, we seek the peace of God.
In joyful song and whispered prayer we seek the peace of God.
God’s city can be anywhere we seek the peace of God.

Call To Worship
Scripture Reading: Psalm 71
Forsake Me Not When My Strength Is Spent
Leader:
1 In you, O Lord, do I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame!2 In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
incline your ear to me, and save me!Men & Boys:
3 Be to me a rock of refuge,
to which I may continually come;
you have given the command to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.4 Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man.Women & Girls:
5 For you, O Lord, are my hope,
my trust, O Lord, from my youth.6 Upon you I have leaned from before my birth;
you are he who took me from my mother’s womb.
My praise is continually of you.Leader:
7 I have been as a portent to many,
but you are my strong refuge.8 My mouth is filled with your praise,
and with your glory all the day.9 Do not cast me off in the time of old age;
forsake me not when my strength is spent.10 For my enemies speak concerning me;
those who watch for my life consult together11 and say, “God has forsaken him;
pursue and seize him, for there is none to deliver him.”12 O God, be not far from me;
O my God, make haste to help me!13 May my accusers be put to shame and consumed;
with scorn and disgrace may they be covered who seek my hurt.Congregation:
14 But I will hope continually
and will praise you yet more and more.15 My mouth will tell of your righteous acts,
of your deeds of salvation all the day,
for their number is past my knowledge.16 With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come;
I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.Leader:
17 O God, from my youth you have taught me,
and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.18 So even to old age and gray hairs,
O God, do not forsake me,
until I proclaim your might to another generation,
your power to all those to come.19 Your righteousness, O God, reaches the high heavens.
You who have done great things, O God, who is like you?20 You who have made me see many troubles and calamities
will revive me again;
from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again.21 You will increase my greatness
and comfort me again.Congregation:
22 I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God;
I will sing praises to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel.23 My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you;
my soul also, which you have redeemed.24 And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long,
for they have been put to shame and disappointed
who sought to do me hurt.Prayer of Invocation
Declaring What We Believe:
Deuteronomy 6:4-9
4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.
7 You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Psalm 128C Blue Psalter, pg 845
Whoever Fears the Lord
Whoever fears the Lord and lives as God intends
Will find the whole of life is filled with gifts he sends.
When work is more than toil and reaps a just reward,
When strength and health are ours, all these are from the Lord!
We celebrate the joys of home and family,
Where love’s enduring bonds provide security.
God nurtures every child for life’s demanding race;
Each day he offers us new fruitfulness, new grace.
His kindness is revealed where bitter conflicts cease;
Far more, within our hearts, his mercy brings us peace.
May God prolong our days to see our children’s heirs,
And may his gracious gifts be ours and also theirs.

We Respond to God’s Presence
Oh, Shout for Joy (The New Hundredth)
Oh, shout for joy unto the Lord, Worship Him with gladness.
Let all the earth bring songs of praise, Telling of His greatness,
Know that the Lord we praise is God; He is God our Maker,
And we are His, a people called, Sheep within His pasture.
Refrain:
Oh, enter in His gates with praise, His courts with great thanksgiving;
For He is good, His love endures Morning after morning.
Oh, shout for joy unto the Lord! See the way is open
To live in peace beneath His grace, Every sin forgiven
For He who knew no mark of sin Took our sin upon Him,
That we might be the righteousness Of the God of Heaven. (Refrain)
Oh, shout for joy unto the Lord Through the hours of darkness.
For day by day His faithful hand Ever stays upon us.
With every morning rise, we kneel; All our lives we offer
To be a living sacrifice, Wholly to the Saviour. (Refrain)

Christ Our Hope in Life and Death
What is our hope in life and death?
Christ alone, Christ alone.
What is our only confidence?
That our souls to Him belong.
Who holds our days within His hand?
What comes, apart from His command?
And what will keep us to the end?
The love of Christ, in which we stand.
Refrain: O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal.
O sing hallelujah! Now and ever, we confess
Christ our hope in life and death.
What truth can calm the troubled soul?
God is good, God is good.
Where is His grace and goodness known?
In our great Redeemer’s blood.
Who holds our faith when fears arise?
Who stands above the stormy trial?
Who sends the waves that bring us nigh unto the shore?
The rock of Christ!
Refrain: O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal.
O sing hallelujah! Now and ever, we confess
Christ our hope in life and death.
Unto the grave, what shall we sing?
“Christ, He lives; Christ, He lives!”
And what reward will heaven bring?
Everlasting life with Him.
There we will rise to meet the Lord,
Then sin and death will be destroyed,
And we will feast in endless joy,
When Christ is ours forevermore.
Refrain: O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal.
O sing hallelujah! Now and ever, we confess
Christ our hope in life and death.

Red Hymnal #92
The Solid Rock
My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
When darkness veils His lovely face, I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
His oath, His covenant, His blood, support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
When He shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
