    Call To Worship

    Scripture Reading:                                                            Malachi 4:4-6

    4 Remember the law of my servant Moses, the statutes and rules that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel.

    5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.

    6 And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers….

    Scripture Reading:                                           Matthew 11:7-11, 13-15

    7 As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: ‘What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

    8 What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.

    9 What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

    10 This is he of whom it is written, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.”

    11 Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he

    ...

    13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John,

    14 and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come.

    15 He who has ears to hear let him hear.’

    We Respond to God’s Presence

    God Has Spoken by His Prophets

    1. God has spoken by His prophets, spoken His unchanging Word,

    Each from age to age proclaiming God, the one, the righteous Lord.

    Mid the world’s despair and turmoil One firm anchor holds us fast:

    God is King, His throne eternal, God the First and God the Last.

    1. God has spoken by Christ Jesus, Christ the everlasting Son,

    Brightness of the Father’s glory, with the Father ever one;

    Spoken by the Word incarnate, God of God, ere time began;

    Light of Light, to earth descending, Man, revealing God to man.

    1. God yet speaks by His own Spirit, speaking to the hearts of men;

    In the age-long Word expounding God’s own message, now as then.

    Through the rise and fall of nations one sure faith yet standing fast:

    God is King, His Word unchanging, God the First and God the Last.

    By Faith

    Verse 1:    By faith we see the hand of God

    In the light of creation’s grand design

    In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness

    Who walk by faith and not by sight

    Verse 2:    By faith our fathers roamed the earth

    With the power of His promise in their hearts

    Of a holy city built by God's own hand

    A place where peace and justice reign

    Refrain:    We will stand as children of the promise

    We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward

    Till the race is finished and the work is done

    We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

    Verse 3:    By faith the prophets saw a day

    When the longed-for Messiah would appear

    With the power to break the chains of sin and death

    And rise triumphant from the grave

    Verse 4:    By faith the church was called to go

    In the power of the Spirit to the lost

    To deliver captives and to preach good news

    In every corner of the earth

    Repeat Refrain

    Verse 5:    By faith this mountain shall be moved

    And the power of the gospel shall prevail

    For we know in Christ all things are possible

    For all who call upon His name

    Repeat Refrain

    Song of the Prophets

    Ancient Prophets

    In ages past the mighty Lord by prophets spoke the Word,

    And from their lips God’s great design throughout the earth was heard.

    In revelation, parable, bold fantasy, and dream,

    They echoed God’s eternal vow to ransom and redeem.

    Isaiah

    A voice cries in the wilderness: “Prepare a desert way,

    where God may pass, bring righteousness, and rule without delay.”

    The weak who wait upon the Lord with eagles’ strength shall rise,

    imagined blessings of the past, now real before their eyes.

    Joel

    Now sanctify a fast, O God, among your gathered host;

    cry out for joy to those who mourn; bring down the ones who boast.

    Come quickly, Lord, and make our hearts a worthy dwelling place,

    where conflict finds an ordered peace, and vengeance bends to grace.

    Amos

    The Lord in holiness has sworn the time shall surely come

    when evil foes are cast aside, the righteous gathered home.

    With humble hearts the faithful take their place among the least,

    and those who dine with servants greet the Giver of the feast.

    Prophets’ Promise

    Yet still in present, troubled days we seek to hear God’s voice

    And in the face of our distress, find reason to rejoice.

    Grant us the wisdom to discern through faith who we should be—

    A fallen race, restored through grace, a captive world set free

  • Children’s Sermon Song:

    Rolled Away

    Rolled away, rolled away, rolled away,

    ev’ry burden of my heart rolled away.

    Rolled away rolled away, rolled away,

    ev’ry burden of my heart rolled away.

    Ev’ry sin had to go ‘neath the crimson flow, hallelujah!

    Rolled away, rolled away, rolled away,

    ev’ry burden of my heart rolled away!

    Sermon Hymn:

    Speak, O Lord

    1       Speak, O Lord, as we come to You

    To receive the food of Your Holy Word.

    Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;

    Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,

    That the light of Christ might be seen today

    In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.

    Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us

    All Your purposes for Your glory.

    2       Teach us, Lord, full obedience,

    Holy reverence, true humility;

    Test our thoughts and our attitudes

    In the radiance of Your purity.

    Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see

    Your majestic love and authority.

    Words of pow’r that can never fail—

    Let their truth prevail over unbelief.

    1. Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds;

    Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us—

    Truths unchanged from the dawn of time

    That will echo down through eternity.

    And by grace we'll stand on Your promises,

    And by faith we'll walk as You walk with us.

    Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built

    And the earth is filled with Your glory.

    We Are Called to be God’s People

    1. We are called to be God’s people, showing by our lives His grace,

    One in heart and one in spirit, sign of hope for all the race.

    Let us show how He has changed us and remade us as His own;

    Let us share our life together as we shall around His throne.

    1. We are called to be God’s servants, working in His world today;

    Taking His own task upon us, all His sacred words obey.

    Let us rise, then, to His summons, dedicate to Him our all,

    That we may be faithful servants, quick to answer now His call.

    1. We are called to be God’s prophets, speaking for the truth and right;

    Standing firm for godly justice, bringing evil into light.

    Let us seek the courage needed, our high calling to fulfill,

    That we all may know the blessing of the doing of God’s will.
