    Scripture Reading:                                                              1 John 2:1-6

1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments.

4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him,

5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him:

6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

    Declaring What We Believe

A Portion of Prayer by Lewis Bayly

(From Piercing Heaven – Prayers by the Puritans)

All:            There can be nothing better than to praise your name, O Lord,
and to declare your lovingkindness in the morning,
on your holy and blessed Sabbath day!

Leader:      For it is your will and command that we set aside this day
    to serve and praise you.

    Men:         We remember with thanks
the creation of the world by the power of your word,
and redemption of humanity by the death of your Son.

All:            We declare your greatness and power.
Yours is the glory and the victory, and we praise you.

Women:    Everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours is the kingdom, and you excel as Lord of all.
Riches and honor come from you.

Men:         You reign over all. You give grace to all.
Power and strength are in your hands.

All:            May my chief delight be
to dedicate myself to your glory and honor,
not my own way or my own will.
When I cease from my works of sin,
as well as the works of my daily calling,
    may I, through your blessing,
feel in my heart the beginning of that eternal Sabbath,
which I will celebrate with saints and angels
in unspeakable joy and glory to your praise and worship,
in your heavenly kingdom forevermore. Amen

Psalm 51D                                                              Blue Psalter, page 328

“Have Mercy Upon Me, O God”

    The Lord Is My Salvation

The grace of God has reached for me and pulled me from the raging sea

And I am safe on this solid ground. The Lord is my salvation.

I will not fear when darkness falls

His strength will help me scale these walls

I’ll see the dawn of the rising sun. The Lord is my salvation

    Refrain:

Who is like the Lord our God?  Strong to save, faithful in love

My debt is paid and the vict’ry won. The Lord is my salvation

My hope is hidden in the Lord; He flow’rs each promise of His Word

When winter fades I know spring will come. The Lord is my salvation

In times of waiting, times of need when I know loss, when I am weak

I know His grace will renew these days. The Lord is my salvation

    Repeat Refrain

And when I reach my final day He will not leave me in the grave

But I will rise, Christ will call me home; The Lord is my salvation

    Repeat Refrain

    Doxology:

Glory be to God the Father; Glory be to God the Son

Glory be to God the Spirit; The Lord is our salvation  (Repeat Doxology)

Do you feel the world is broken?                               (We do)

Do you feel the shadows deepen?                              (We do)

Is it good that we remind ourselves of this?               (It is)

    Chorus:

Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole?

Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?

The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave

Of all blessing and honor and glory

Is He worthy of this?  He is

    Verse 3:

Does the Father truly love us?                                    (He does)

Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole?

Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?

The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave

From every people and tribe, Every nation and tongue

He has made us a kingdom and priests to God to reign with the Son

Is He worthy? Is He worthy?

Of all blessing and honor and glory
