With Joy I Heard My Friends Exclaim
Verse 1
With joy I heard my friends exclaim:
“Come, let us in God’s temple meet,”
Within your gates, O Zion blest, shall ever stand our willing feet.
Refrain: Come, let us go to the house of the Lord.
Zion, sing; sing out your peace and joy.
Verse 2
How beautiful does Zion stand, a city built compact and fair;
The people of the Lord unite with joy and praise to worship there.
(Repeat Refrain)
Verse 3
They come to learn the will of God,
to pay their vows, God’ grace to own,
For there is judgment’s royal seat, Messiah’s sure and lasting throne.
(Repeat Refrain)
Verse 4
For Zion’s peace let prayers be made; may all that love you prosper well!
Within your walls let peace abide,
and gladness with your children dwell.
(Repeat Refrain)
Verse 5
For love of friends and kindred dear, my heart’s desire is Zion’s peace,
And for the house of God, the Lord, my loving care shall never cease. (Repeat Refrain)

Call To Worship
Scripture Reading: Psalm 132:11-18
11 The Lord swore to David a sure oath
from which he will not turn back:
“One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne.12 If your sons keep my covenant
and my testimonies that I shall teach them,
their sons also forever shall sit on your throne.”13 For the Lord has chosen Zion;
he has desired it for his dwelling place:14 “This is my resting place forever;
here I will dwell, for I have desired it.15 I will abundantly bless her provisions;
I will satisfy her poor with bread.16 Her priests I will clothe with salvation,
and her saints will shout for joy.17 There I will make a horn to sprout for David;
I have prepared a lamp for my anointed.18 His enemies I will clothe with shame,
but on him his crown will shine.”Prayer of Invocation

Red Hymnal #174
Lo! How a Rose E’er Blooming
Lo, how a rose e’er blooming From tender stem hath sprung!
Of Jesse’s lineage coming As men of old have sung.
It came, a flower bright, Amid the cold of winter,
When half-gone was the night.
Isaiah ‘twas foretold it. The rose I have in mind;
With Mary we behold it, The virgin mother kind.
To show God’s love aright She bore to men a Savior,
When half-gone was the night.
This flower, whose fragrance tender With sweetness fills the air,
Dispels with glorious splendor The darkness everywhere.
True man, yet very God, From sin and death He saves us
And lightens every load.

We Respond to God’s Presence
Red Hymnal #175
While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night
While shepherds watched their flocks by night, All seated on the ground,
The angel of the Lord came down,
And glory shone around, And glory shone around.
“Fear Not!” said he, for mighty dread Had seized their troubled mind;
“Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all mankind, To you and all mankind.
“To you in David’s town this day Is born, of David’s line,
The Savior, who is Christ the Lord,
And this shall be the sign—And this shall be the sign:
“The heavenly Babe you there shall find To human view displayed,
All meanly wrapt in swathing bands
And in a manger laid, And in a manger laid.
“All glory to be to God on high, And to the earth be peace:
Good will henceforth from heaven to men
Begin and never cease! Begin and never cease!”

Shepherd Me, O God
Refrain: Shepherd me, O God, beyond my wants,
beyond my fears, from death into life.
- God is my shepherd, so nothing shall I want,
I rest in the meadows of faithfulness and love,
I walk by the quiet waters of peace. (Refrain)
- Gently you raise me and heal my weary soul,
You lead me by pathways of righteousness and truth,
My spirit shall sing the music of your name. (Refrain)
- Though I should wander the valley of death,
I fear no evil, for you are at my side,
Your rod and your staff, my comfort and my hope. (Refrain)
- You have set me a banquet of love in the face of hatred,
Crowning me with love
Beyond my pow’r to hold. (Refrain)
- Surely your kindness and mercy
Follow me all the days of my life;
I will dwell in the house of my God forevermore. (Refrain)

When David Had a Longing
Verse 1
When David had a longing to build the Lord a house,
he voiced his heart’s intention by means of solemn vows.
His people caught the vision: to build a sacred place
where holy joy and worship would please the God of grace.
Let David be remembered, your faithful servant, Lord:
the depth of his devotion, the hardships he endured.
Verse 2
The Lord then vowed to David: his house would surely last
if only his successors held God’s commandments fast;
God longed to set among them a throne for heaven’s King;
what joy and what abundance his presence there would bring!
Let David’s Lamp be lighted, your chosen servant, Lord:
his kingdom be established, his triumph be assured.

There is a Higher Throne
- There is a higher throne than all this world has known,
Where faithful ones from ev’ry tongue will one day come.
Before the Son we’ll stand, made faultless through the Lamb;
Believing hearts find promised grace; Salvation comes.
Chorus: Hear Heaven’s voices sing; Their thund’rous anthem rings
Through emerald courts and sapphire skies; Their praises rise.
All glory, wisdom, pow’r, strength,
thanks and honour are to God, our King,
Who reigns on high forevermore.
- And there we’ll find our home; Our life before the throne.
We’ll honour Him in perfect song where we belong.
He’ll wipe each tear stained eye as thirst and hunger die.
The Lamb becomes our Shepherd King; We’ll reign with Him.
Repeat Chorus
