    Scripture Reading                                                                I Peter 1:3-9

    Born Again to a Living Hope

    3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

    4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,

    5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

    6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,

    7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

    8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,

    9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

    Prayer of Invocation

    Hymn Response:

    The Greatest Commands

    Verse 1 (Alto; All women first time through):

    Love one another, for love is of God.

    He who loves is born of God and knows God.

    He who does not love does not know God,

    For God is love, God is love.

    Verse 2 (Bass; All men first time through this section):

    Love bears all things,

    Believes all things,

    Love hopes all things,

    Endures all things.

    Verse 3 (Tenor):     God is love, God is love, God is love.

    God is love, God is love, God is love.

    God is love, God is love, God is love.

    God is love, God is love, God is love.

    Verse 4 (Soprano): Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart.

    With all thy soul, all thy strength, all thy mind.

    Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,

    For God is love, God is love, God is love.

    Declaring What We Believe:

    The Nicene Creed

    We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

    And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,

    begotten from the Father before all ages,

    God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

    begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father.

    Through him all things were made.

    For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven;

    he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,

    and was made man.

    He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;

    he suffered and was buried.

    The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.

    He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

    He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead.

    His kingdom will never end.

    And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life.

    He proceeds from the Father and the Son,

    and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.

    He spoke through the prophets.

    We believe in one holy universal and apostolic church.

    We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

    We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,

    and to life in the world to come.

    Amen.

    We Respond to God’s Presence

    Christ is Risen, He is Risen Indeed

    1. How can it be, the One who died,

    Has borne our sin through sacrifice

    To conquer every sting of death? Sing, sing hallelujah.

    1. For joy awakes as dawning light

    When Christ’s disciples lift their eyes.

    Alive He stands, their Friend and King; Christ, Christ He is risen.

    Chorus:          Christ is risen, He is risen indeed!

    Oh, sing hallelujah.

    Join the chorus, sing with the redeemed;

    Christ is risen, He is risen indeed.

    1. Where doubt and darkness once had been

    They saw Him and their hearts believed.

    But blessed are those who have not seen, Yet, sing hallelujah.

    1. Once bound by fear now bold in faith

    They preached the truth and power of grace.

    And pouring out their lives they gained Life, life everlasting.

    Chorus

    1. The power that raised Him from the grave

    Now works in us to powerfully save.

    He frees our hearts to live His grace; Go tell of His goodness.

    Repeat Chorus Twice

    Ending (Twice):          He’s alive, He’s alive!

    Heaven’s gates are opened wide.

    He’s alive, He’s alive!

    Now in heaven glorified.

    New Testament Reading                                                  I Peter 2:22-25

    21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.

    22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.

    23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.

    24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

    25 For you were straying like sheep but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

    Power and Might

    Chorus:     Power and might be unto the Lamb,

    Who sits on the throne forever;

    Glory and light illumine His own,

    Who worship the Lamb forevermore.

    People from ev’ry nation and tribe will praise the great I Am;

    Singing in ev’ry language and tongue, “Salvation to our Lamb”

    Repeat Chorus

    Angels of God surrounding the throne will lift their voice and sing;

    “Blessing and glory, power and might, be unto Christ our King.”

    Repeat Chorus, ending with additional “Forevermore”

    What the Lord Has Done in Me

    Let the weak say I am strong. Let the poor say I am rich.

    Let the blind say I can see. It’s what the Lord has done in me.

    Chorus:     Hosanna, hosanna to the Lamb that was slain.

    Hosanna, hosanna, Jesus died and rose again.

    Into the river I will wade, There my sins are washed away.

    From the heaven’s mercy stream. Of the Savior’s love for me.

    Repeat Chorus

    I will rise from waters deep Into the saving arms of God;

    I will sing salvation’s song – “Jesus Christ has set me free!”

    Repeat Chorus

    Red Hymnal #30

    Break Now the Bread of Life

    Break now the bread of life, dear Lord, to me,

    As Thou didst break the loaves beside the sea;

    Beyond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord;

    My spirit pants for Thee, O living Word.

    Bless Thou the truth, dear Lord, to me, to me,

    As Thou didst bless the bread by Galilee.

    Then shall all bondage cease, all fetters fall;

    And I shall find my peace, my all in all!

    Thou art the bread of life, O Lord, to me,

    Thy holy Word the truth that saveth me.

    Give me to eat and live with Thee above;

    Teach me to love Thy truth, for Thou art love.

    O send Thy Spirit, Lord, now unto me,

    That He may touch my eyes and make me see.

    Show me the truth concealed within Thy Word,

    For in Thy book revealed I see Thee, Lord. Amen

    Red Hymnal #345

    Crown Him with Many Crowns

    Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne:

    Hark! How the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own!

    Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee;

    And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity.

    Crown Him the Lord of love: Behold His hands and side,

    Rich wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified;

    No angel in the sky can fully bear that sight,

    But downward bends His wondering eye at mysteries so bright.

    Crown Him the Lord of love: Who triumphed o’er the grave,

    Who rose victorious to the strife for those He came to save;

    His glories now we sing, Who died and rose on high,

    Who died eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.

    Crown Him the Lord of heaven: One with the Father known,

    One with the Spirit through Him given from yonder glorious throne.

    To Thee be endless praise, for Thou for us hast died;

    Be Thou, O Lord, through endless days adored and magnified.

    Crown Him the Lord of years: The potentate of time,

    Creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime.

    All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me;

    Thy praise and glory shall not fail throughout eternity. Amen.

    Lyrics: Matthew Bridges, Godfrey Thring. Music: DIADEMATA, George J. Elvey.

    Now unto Him

    Now unto Him who is able to keep you from falling

    And to make you stand in His presence

    Blameless and with great joy.

    To the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ, our Lord,

    Be the glory and the majesty, dominion and authority,

    Both now and forever. Amen

    Give Him the glory and the majesty, dominion and authority,

    Both now and forever. Amen                         (Jude 24-25)
